Purpose
This article covers how to manage dates across your project schedule.
Who Uses This
Project managers responsible for keeping schedules accurate as work progresses.
How It Works
Every task, deliverable, and milestone has associated start and/or due dates that make up the overall project timeline.
When a date changes, connected tasks (via Dependencies) may shift automatically to reflect the update.
Best Practices
Update dates as soon as you know about a change — don't wait until a status meeting.
Review how a date change affects the Critical Path before confirming it (see Critical Path).
Communicate major date shifts to affected team members and external partners.
Troubleshooting
If dates aren't updating as expected, check for locked tasks or conflicting dependencies.
